Memories of Roberta Clark
by Graham Pugh

Roberta and I were in 5th and 6th grade together at Hortt Elementary School.  She was blonde, very good looking and I had a tremendous crush on her!  I remember one Saturday night when we were in 6th grade, we both happened to be at the Starlight Skating Rink.  She came over to me and asked if I would skate with her.  We held hands and skated endlessly around the rink to music coming from the loudspeakers. As a young lad, this was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me!

After grade school, Roberta went to Parkway Jr. High and I went to New River.  I would see her on occasion at basketball games and other events.  We always sought each other out to say hello.  We never had any classes together at Stranahan but remained friends throughout.

Roberta was a baton twirler with amazing skill and dexterity.  I remember her performance at our 6th grade graduation exercise in the Hortt School cafetorium. She also performed at many junior high and high school events.  An exceptional talent!

I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I learned she had passed away. I always thought I'd see her again someday.  She can be seen in the home movie clip of our graduation just as I always remembered her.
